Chapter 22
1. The Global South registered in a broader economy on world history because of the south-south cooperation. It refers to the economic and political term which was known as the long-term goal of pursuing world changes in economics which benefited countries that were in Global South. Since most countries considered to be in the Global South were mostly third world developing countries, long term economic goals were put in place as these were emerging markets. Some of the principles guided it were non-interference in domestic affairs, national ownership, and independence, respect of national sovereignty. This insured these nations’ independence in hopes of being economically sound. Some countries which used this south cooperation termed it as the mutually beneficial that spread skills, knowledge, resources, and expertise to address their development changes for example pressure of high population.
3. As World War 1 and 2 weakened Europe the United Nations was established. This hand in hand with depression after World War 2 lead to many colonized countries seek independence in a weakened European state. The United Nations almost ensured that these new countries were given a voice and representation. New anti-colonial legislation was passed through the UN leading to the decolonization of a majority of Asia and Africa. Industrial power as supposed to overseas colonial power was the new way of establishing yourself. No more was Europe the major power of the world. The United States and the Soviet Union had emerged in the world.
6. Gandhi was a pioneered confrontational nonviolent strategy to resist colonial rule. He became the leader of the Indian independence movement becoming leader of the National Congress during the 1920s and 30s. He was a key figure in uniting people in the Independence movement.
